We said goodbye forever on 22nd November 2024.

Celebrating First Nations Artists

The Telarie would like to acknowledge the First Nations people of the land commonly known as Australia, who are the Custodians of the land we live and work on – the Wurundjeri and Wadawurrung people - and we also extend that acknowledgment to the traditional custodians of lands that our customers live and work on. We pay our respects to their Elders, both past, present and emerging.

As a business owned by white presenting people, who are lucky enough to live and work on Country, we have made it a priority to learn and celebrate the traditional custodians of this land we call home. We want to celebrate their tradition, art and people and have made it and ongoing part of our mission to advocate and educate.

When we work with First Nations art, it is more than just a job for us. It is a journey. We sink ourselves into the story - asking the artists questions, and immersing ourselves in the meaning behind their work. As a business, we ensure that our artists are consulted throughout the digitising and printing processes, and fairly remunerated for their work.

We have exclusive permission and contractual agreements with our artists to print and sell their designs, which the artists passionately wish to share their work with our community. These stories are ones they wish to share with everyone - indigenous and allies alike - with the aim to broaden the representation of their community, and give wider access to their stories.

It is vital that those who purchase these designs know who they are buying from and what it represents. It is mandatory that any maker who creates products from this fabric with the intention to sell acknowledges the artist on their website and/or social media.

We would love to thank the incredible artists that we work with, for their open conversation and contribution to this blog. Nikki, a Gomeroi and Galpu woman, of Blakbird Designs and Annie, a Palawa and Paredarerme woman, of Pia Designs, we are absolutely honoured to work with and showcase your art, and are humbled that you have entrusted us with your pieces.
